The olive trees

At the end of the spring of 2015, the 14 quarters (10 Ha) of land were prepared for planting olive trees, in a separation frame that was found suitable outside 8 x 6 meters. This is a very wide space because, although a drip irrigation system was initially installed, we thought the trees should not be watered except in cases of extreme drought.

We had to work with two thousand wooden stakes to support the tiny olive shoots (no more than a handful) that we would sow after we had dug up all the ground. And with two thousand protectors because we detected the presence of hares in the area. Bernat Pizà Trias directed the project.

In order for the oil to have the properties we want and after more than 25 years of experience growing olive trees in the Serra de Tramuntana, in the municipality of Andratx, we decided to plant in these one hundred thousand meters only varieties allowed for the denomination of origin “Oli de Mallorca” and in this proportion: one thousand four hundred Arbequines, three hundred Piqual and three hundred Empeltre, and we left for two quarters that remain in Binifarda, neighbor of Gossalba, the incorporation of the varieties Frantoio i Koroneiki.

The first harvest took place during the autumn of 2018 and so far every year we have obtained an excellent production of organic olives, free of herbicides, insecticides and pesticides, with the advice of APAEMA, the Association of the Ecological Agricultural Production of Mallorca.
